Events - UNCAC Awareness and Implementation Workshop for Civil Society in Malaysia

Corruption remains a significant challenge in Southeast Asia, impacting governance and enabling organized crime. UNCAC, as the only legally binding global anti-corruption framework, plays a crucial role in addressing these issues. Malaysia has completed two UNCAC review cycles, providing essential insights into strengthening anti-corruption efforts. On 8th May 2025, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) partnered with Transparency International Malaysia to host the UNCAC Awareness and Implementation Workshop for Civil Society in Malaysia.

The workshop comprises civil society organizations (CSOs) from diverse backgrounds, such as anti-corruption, environment, human rights, and migrant/refugee advocacy, to encourage dialogue and strengthen UNCAC implementation.

💡 Mr. Justin Jarret, Manager of TI-Malaysia, opened the session with a presentation on Exploring the Nexus Between Corruption and Crime – Reforms and Advocacy.

💡 Ms. Annika Wythes, UNODC Regional Anti-Corruption Adviser, led workshops on UNCAC review cycles and follow-up actions.

We hope the CSOs who attended the workshop will leverage the insights and strategies discussed during the workshop to strengthen their anti-corruption advocacy efforts. By increasing their understanding of UNCAC implementation and its role in addressing corruption-related challenges, these organizations can drive meaningful change within their respective sectors.
